5 Healthy Skin Essentials
September 14th, 2010
Confucius once said, “Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
I think you will agree with me that the above quote is true even in our modern world where we are constantly bombarded with the media’s idea of beauty.
And although the concept of beauty is always subjective what you must do for the health of your skin is not.
In my opinion the first step to beautiful skin is always prevention.
And the first step in prevention is to use a good sunscreen.
I prefer mineral base sunscreens as they are healthier for your skin. I always use a mineral powder with SPF for everyday.
This fact is always startling to me. Your body is composed of 98 percent water and as we age the body’s ability to hold water lessens.
Therefore keep your skin supple by using a good moisturizer and drinking plenty of water through out the day.
Your skin is the first barrier against pollution, the sun, disease and many other aging factors but it is also the last of your organs to receive nutrients. Therefore, the skin is the first to show signs of an improper diet.
If you want to keep your body and skin at an optimal level, nutritional experts agree that it needs a wide variety of vitamins and minerals, up to 52, and essential oils like omega 3 and 6.
Feed your body different fruits, vegetables and meats.
The fruits and greens are a great source of antioxidants and meats of course are protein. Eating fatty fish adds omega 3 to your diet. All of them great for your skin and overall health.
Caution, some fish can have a high heavy metal content like mercury. So know where they come from as a precaution.
Some external solutions for perfect skin.
As you get older, as early as age 22, the body doesn’t produce as much collagen as it once did. Therefore you need to stimulate your body in order to produce more of it.
Also exercising increases blood flow to the top layers of the skin giving it the vital nutrients it needs.
Lastly, using a dry brush or a body scrub will help you get rid of dead and dull skin, gets rid of cellulite and its a safe method of detoxifying. This also stimulates collagen and elastin production for softer and more supple skin.
Every woman, including myself, wants to learn to balance their sense of beauty and those standards as set by the media. My hope is that the above solutions can help you fulfill them.
