Are There Any Truths In The Acai Berry Benefits

April 22nd, 2011

The Acai berry has sat at the forefront of the weight loss and dietary supplements industry for a number of years now, yet it is this prominence, combined with a plethora of outlandish and unfounded claims, that has made so many people so sceptical about its true benefits.

So what are theses so called Acai berry benefits? And how much truth is there actually in them?

The Acai berry is very high in a large variety of vitamins. It also provides a number of antioxidants as well as high fibre content. These are all facts, and it is because of these facts that the Acai berry benefits are said to include weight loss, increased energy and all round improved health.

And despite widespread belief, there is actually quite a bit of truth to this. It is common knowledge that a diet high in vitamins will improve our general health, and in terms of the total content of this single fruit, the variety and density of the vitamins are almost unbeatable.

Many tests have additionally demonstrated that antioxidants help prevent the development of cancer. One of the Acai berry benefits therefore, is that it contains very high levels of antioxidants (considerably more than red wine) meaning that it is a highly beneficial food in the mission to live a long and healthy life.

The Acai berry can also aid weight loss. Although it is no miracle cure (as the fact is, there is no miracle cure), its high levels of fibre can help the body to feel full quicker and for longer, helping dieters to eat less at meal times and to snack less in-between.

It’s also a fact that a diet low in vitamins will result in low energy – whilst a high vitamin diet will increase energy. Therefore, by taking a daily Acai berry supplement the body’s vitamin levels can be kept constantly topped up, providing more energy for exercise, and in turn increasing weight loss.

Yet many people don’t believe there is any truth in these advantages – this largely stems from ‘rogue traders’ making ridiculous claims such as the Acai berry will make you ‘lose 10 pounds in 10 days’. Whilst there are many people who are ready and willing to believe these claims, we all know that deep down, nothing is able to offer such miraculous results and if we really want to lose weight, there is only one way to do it.

What’s more, the Acai berry industry has been inundated with scams, which has consequently harmed the reputation that surrounds this industry further.

However, there are honest retailers about, who will sell Acai berry supplements with honest claims attached. Because the truth is, that while the Acai berry benefits are quite significant, the berry is not a miracle cure to all ills – consumption of it alone will not offset the impact of an unhealthy diet and it will not make any excess weight just drop off. Like all dietary supplements, the Acai berry needs to be used in combination with a healthy diet and a regular exercise programme in order to be effective, and if used in this way, it can make a significant contribution to a person’s ability to maintain a healthy weight and all round healthy body.
