DIY Facials that Reduce Dry Skin for the Holidays
November 30th, 2013
Greeting the festive season means preparing skin to look sensational–without the dry ashen appearance typical of this wintry season. The leading spas in NYC and beyond offer holistic DIY facials that source organic ingredients from your cupboard and deliver rapid glowing results in time for whatever upcoming events we anticipate.
Avocado and Jojoba Facial
I cannot stress enough the magnificent complexion that is easily possible with avocado and jojoba oil as a supreme DIY facial combination. You will feel elasticity instantly restored, while fines lines and wrinkles slacken as they are filled with the emollient properties available in these fatty acid rich botanicals. The oils of both avocado fruit and jojoba seed offer the ultimate hydration that brings about a dramatic ageless radiance.
1 Tablespoon ripe avocado (be sure it’s green and soft inside)
1 Tablespoon 100% organic jojoba oil
Before applying the avocado be sure to cleanse skin with a vitamin-C face cleanser. There are many on the market, so choose a paraben and sulfate free variety for superior results. Scoop the avocado just before you generously massage it into a clean damp surface. The oils instantly work to thoroughly permeate dermal layers for complete hydration.
Leave the avocado to set for 15 minutes then rinse with cool water and pat dry with a paper towel. The jojoba oil should go on immediately after again gently massaging into the face for an ultra moisturizing experience.
Green Tea Steamer and Tamanu Oil
2 organic green tea bags
1 clean cotton cloth
1 teaspoon Tamanu oil
Steep 2 green tea bags in boiling water then let the brew cool slightly. Again cleanse skin while you wait for water to boil. Place the cotton cloth in your pot of tea. Take the two cool tea bags and put them over the eyes to reduce puffiness, then place the steamed cloth over your face. The steam will open your pores fully to absorb the nourishing tamanu oil sourced from the evergreen tree variety.
What nutrients do these botanics offer skin?
Jojoba saturates the dermis with abundant fatty acids that deeply moisturize for a glowing complexion.
Avocado has free-radical fighting antioxidants that fortify the skin. Vitamins C and E also protect and soften while the fatty acid content hydrates for noticeable vibrance.
Green Tea combats epidermal damage from environmental stressors with its potent antioxidant strength, so the skin holds up beautifully against ever-present free radicals.
Tamanu oil is one of the best kept skincare secrets. Extracted from the seeds of this evergreen tree of the Eastern hemisphere, the oil is the ultimate anti-inflammatory. Because of its regenerative abilities It has also been used traditionally to diminish scars and fade blemishes.
So while we recover from the tryptophan-laden turkey fest, try these natural facials to pamper skin in that visibly minimize flaky lackluster texture for the upcoming holidays. Full youthful vitality will be restored in minutes so you’re sure to look your best.
