Dry Skin Is Prone To Wrinkles And Premature Aging
November 13th, 2013
Dry skin is unable to protect itself from the environment and is less able to generate new cells and repair itself. This is why people with dry skin are prone to premature aging skin.
Additionally, the winter is the season when there isn’t enough moisture in the environment, both inside due to heated homes or outside due to bone chilling winter weather. So even though you normally don’t have dry skin, you will in the winter months.
Increased moisture in your skin will not only protect it against the environment but also ward off fine lines and wrinkles. Here are a few tips on how to do this.
Lost Elasticity, Wrinkles And Rough Texture Are The Result of Dry Skin
The right moisturizer such can make a world of difference in how your skin looks and feels. But first lets take a look at some factors that can worsen dry skin.
As you age, your skin is less capable of retaining moisture because its production of collagen slows down- this is what keeps your skin bouncy and firm. Less collagen results in loss of elastin and hyaluronic acid, and these help your skin to ward off damage and retain moisture, respectively.
It is difficult for dry skin to retain moisture and although some of us have naturally dry skin here are some factors that can exacerbate the condition.
Some key elements can be, excessively cold or dry air as in winter, chemicals, skin stripping products, long distant flights.
When the water from your skin evaporates or is not prevented from drying, your cells can’t communicate easily, leading to dry skin. This makes it difficult for your skin to repair itself and further aggravates the problem.
All skin types need moisture because without it the skin accents fine lines or wrinkles and lacks volume. This is why the right moisturizer will do wonders for your skin.
For example I like hydrating serums as by definition, the particles of a serum are small enough to penetrate past the outer layer of the skin. This makes it easy for them to heal the skin from within and get the cells back in communication.
You also don’t need a greasy, heavy cream but something that is properly crafted and that packs a powerful punch of moisture. Products that are brimming with natural oils and essential fatty acids are great. These products not only create a barrier that prevents water from evaporating but also protect your skin against the environment.
I believe that the two types of products are needed for best results. Something that penetrate and heals. And a product that creates an “oily” barrier, similar to what the skin normally generates under normal conditions.
Another thing to consider are proven treatments that help build collagen and elastin, such as microcurrent facials and LED light therapy. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks that keep skin healthy and glowing.
Diet is of course absolutely vital for any treatment or product to have better results. Raw and steamed vegetables and fresh fruits retain their water content as well as are packed with vitamins and nutrients.
Skincare is not a one trick pony but different elements coming together for healthy, dewy, glowing skin.
