How do Saunas Promote Clear Glowing Skin?
October 17th, 2013
Saunas are one of the best ways to promote clear and glowing skin because they detoxify the body. The folks in Finland have known this great skincare secret for thousands of years. I recently spotted an article on the BBC about the Finnish tradition of taking sauna for the undeniable health benefits for skin and system. In a country that equates these spaces with pharmacies for their medicinal abilities, there are 3.3 million saunas throughout!
How can a sauna detoxify skin?
As the steam fills the sauna (whether hot stone or wood burning varieties) it induces sweating which pushes contaminants and toxins out through the pores to detoxify the skin. When these wooden rooms heat up to 160F (320C) blood circulation naturally increases to generate new cell growth as well that makes your face look completely radiant and younger. You’re actually shedding all that weighs your skin down through sweating.
During this calming and oftentimes meditative ritual, anything that blocks your pores– from the gunk of urban terrains or the usual daily grime– is instantly released. Because of the detoxifying abilities, the skin is refreshed and has greater clarity especially if you make saunas part of your regular routine for overall wellbeing.
What are other ways can I detox my skin?
According to harpersbazaar.com Joanna Vargas offers a Detox Power Peel that eliminates contaminants beautifully. ‘A blueberry and paprika peel to simulate circulation and flush out toxins. From there, you hop into her de-aging LED Light Bed…then it’s onto mists of hyperbaric oxygen infused with green tea, hyaluronic acid, aloe and vitamins.
Drink lots of water. This life elixir is the easiest way to flush toxins from the dermal tissue. It’s the original detoxing remedy that is most reliable for delivering clean and clear healthy skin.
Holistic home facials that apply naturally derived ingredients, such as potent calendula or green tea, rid the dermis of undesirable elements while protecting against free radical damage. This approach to face care actually inhibits the onset of signs of aging by preventing dermal breakdown from environmental ravage. As a DYI idea, try an organic green tea toner at home. Simply steep, strain, cool and place in your favorite glass spritz bottle. Be sure to use within one week.
Taking sauna is the ultimate purifying experience much like you get from a good workout. And with that in mind a daily exercise regimen that works up an intense sweat is another perfect way to detox the body of alcohol and other after hours lifestyle choices that take a toll on the skin. We all know our faces beam with good health after a really thorough workout!
And remember to take a weekly detoxifying sauna and see the dramatic difference in the vibrant glow it will bring.
