Makeup Tips to Help You Look Spec-tacular!

May 23rd, 2011

Wearing glasses naturally draws attention to your eyes. In order for your eyes to stand out in a good way, it is important that your makeup is applied properly. Below are a few tips to help you make your eyes look spectacular underneath your frames.

Complimentary Colors

Women who wear glasses, especially if they have bold frames, should make sure that their makeup colors don’t clash with the color of their frames. Eye makeup colors should complement your eye color and it’s a good idea to wear minimal eyeliner because it is magnified behind the lenses.

Don’t Use Powder

Wearing powder eye shadow and even face powder can be a bad idea for people who wear glasses because the powder is attracted to the lenses and you may end up having to clean your glasses several times to get all of the powder off of them. It is much easier to wear cream eye shadow to avoid this problem. Using a dot of white eyeliner or cream shadow at the eye’s inner corner will help brighten the eyes and help you look more awake, regardless of how much sleep you get.

Eyeliner and Mascara

Women who wear glasses should only wear minimal mascara on the top lashes. It’s essential to avoid clumps and smudges when applying because your lenses magnify your eyelashes. Eyeliner can be used to create a smoky effect, but the rest of the eye color should be minimal.

Remember Your Brows

Glasses also draw attention to your eyebrows, so it’s important to keep them well groomed. If you need to fill in sparse areas, it’s a good idea to use a pencil that is a one or two shades lighter than your natural color so that your brows don’t look fake.

Keep Other Makeup Neutral

When the attention is naturally on your eyes, it’s a good idea to keep your lip color neutral so that you don’t look overly made up and fake. You should wear enough lip color that your lips match the rest of your makeup and you don’t look washed out. Wearing concealer under the eyes is especially important because glasses often cast a shadow that magnifies any under-eye circles.

Wearing glasses can pose special makeup challenges, but with these tips, you will look spectacular in your frames. Having several different pairs of glasses is a great way to dramatically change your look, and gives you the chance to experiment with different styles.
