Top Reasons Men Get Facials During Summer

July 2nd, 2015

Someone once said that the next best holiday for men next to Fathers Day is the Fourth of July.  So if you want to gift the BBQ king for sweating it out preparing the ultimate mesquite feast and fireworks, you first need to know the leading reasons men choose to get spa facials. When they’re done right, professional treatments offer a skin strengthening experience that many men are increasingly using to improve the overall health and look of their skin.  For example, if he’s celebrating a birthday in the hottest of summer months this is a reliable way to repair and protect his skin against solar damage and other environmental or lifestyle factors.  Everyone wants to look their best during the most social season of the year and men are no exception.

Why Men Like Peels…

In a New York Times article Manhattan dermatologist, Francesca Fusco says, “Men feel comfortable with peels because they work fast and there are no injections, so they don’t feel like they’re having work done.” She uses them to treat the leading skin complaints male clients have: brown spots, fine lines, wrinkles, ingrown hairs and large pores (especially on the nose) and to improve their appearance and dermal health.

According to Joanna Vargas of her namesake NYC spa “Women think it’s O.K. to suffer a bit for beauty, but men are a little more sensitive to extractions.”  Avoiding scents preferred by women, Joanna gives her male clients fruit acid peels laced with invigorating paprika because of the quick and painless removal of blemishes, sun and age spots.  This is especially good news for all those men hanging out by the grill in the blazing hot sun all summer afternoon.

Oily Skin

In an interview with Men’s Health Dr. Joshua Zeichner says, “In general, men have higher testosterone levels than women, which helps explain why men produce more oil.” As the director of Cosmetic and Clinical Research in Dermatology at Mt. Sinai Hospital he recognizes how this buildup can lead to more blackheads and less clarity.

Ingrown Hairs

Some men have reported a visible reduction of those pesky ingrown hairs that can irritate the skin and cause bumps by growing back into the skin from the follicle.  Removing these also removes the resultant uneven texture that mars the complexion.  This problem is much easier to get under control with the professional attention of a skilled aesthetician.  As the ingrown hairs are a recurring issue it is often desirable to have help fending off this dermal nuisance.

Removing Black Heads

Francis Fernandez of Modern Man reflected after a “glowy” facial that included blackhead removal, generally known as extractions.  He mused that getting a facial was in fact a manly thing to do if the result attracted women’s attention— which he apparently had.  What woman doesn’t like a man who takes of himself after all?

Last but not least, the personal attention of someone who can make your skin look better than any DIY home care for all your important events is the best reason yet to indulge in a customized spa facial.
