Understanding Skin Care Ingredients: Vitamins C, A, F and E
February 19th, 2013
Skincare ingredients can be beneficial or have side effects.
Sometimes even a potentially beneficial ingredient can have an adverse effect if too much of it is used, like retinol and Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs). Both can be irritating to the skin in large quantities. The opposite is also true, not using enough of it will yield no results. This is why the correct formulation of skincare products is vital and why testing under real conditions, like facials and spa treatments, will ultimately produce the results you have been looking for. This is exactly how I developed the Joanna Vargas Skin Care line, tested under real conditions for maximum benefits and results.
And although I wont explain my formulas, Unfortunately, most companies never do as the process of their formulations is part of their proprietary information. And therefore never explain how much of an ingredient is present, leaving you to have to test what products work best for your skin.
A rule of thumb is that the closer the ingredient is to the top the more there is of it in the formula. And as you go down the list of ingredients the less of it there is. Additionally, I like simple ingredients like the ones listed below.
Here, are some simple but amazing and often overlooked ingredients in skincare products. They are vitamins C, A, F and E found in my Daily Serum, is like a green juice for your skin.
You can find vitamins C, A, F and E as ingredients in some of the best skincare products because they are high in antioxidants. In the right amounts they can be essential in your anti aging skin care due to their ability to neutralize free radicals and repair damage skin cells that lead to wrinkles, sagging skin and discoloration. Additionally to these shared qualities, each vitamin features many unique abilities that makes it suited for different skin conditions
When used topically on the skin, vitamin C offers incredible antioxidant and UV protection, repairs sun damage, encourages collagen production, and reduces skin discoloration.
Scientific reports show that is an effective treatment for fine lines and wrinkles, making it a great ingredient to see in your anti aging skin care products
Vitamin A is used in anti aging products and acne products to refine the look of the complexion, leading to a clearer and more youthful appearance. Vitamin A can boosting elasticity and heal sun damage and cigarette related damage.
In too large a proportion this miracle vitamin can be irritating to the skin and cause redness and dryness.
Vitamin E is used in anti aging moisturizers and other skin care products to condition and smooth the skin while protecting with antioxidants. Although each of the vitamins offers multiple benefits, vitamin E surpasses them all with its wide range of abilities. It moisturizes and softens the skin, making it an essential ingredient for dry skin care
What it is- These are essential fatty acids and not a vitamin per se but since is something that your body doesn’t create, they have gotten the moniker Vitamin F.
Why use it- These ingredients are essential for the maintenance of the skin barrier function and improve circulation.
If you want to try a new skincare line it is always good to read many reviews, or get as much data as possible on particular ingredients or consult your skincare expert.
And don’t be afraid to find out that the skincare product did not work quite well for you. Henry Ford once said, “Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.”
I hope this was helpful!
