What Are the Benefits of an Eye Cream?

Woman With Beautiful Green Eyes

Dark circles. Puffiness. Wrinkles. Just a few of the many plaguing characteristics of the eye area. What to do? First off, start treating the eye area as soon as possible. The skin under the eyes is among the most sensitive on your entire body—and it starts showing signs of age as early as your 20’s. (Not to mention we blink about 10,000 times a day, so just imagine the toll that takes!) But don’t panic! There are plenty of ways to keep your eyes looking as youthful as ever—and they all involve eye cream.

If you’re looking to firm up the under-eye area and get rid of dark circles, look for eye creams formulated with caffeine. Caffeine targets and restricts the blood vessels, tightening the skin and fighting discoloration.

Banish those pesky fine lines and wrinkles with proteins and peptides. Pat a bit of eye cream from inner to outer corner each morning and night and within a few weeks, watch those lines start to disappear.

Eye creams can also help with unsightly puffiness. I usually prefer a gel for this problem—great ones can be found from Benefit, Shu Uemura, Eminence and many other beauty brands.

I like to apply this in the morning—perfect after a late night out!

For an extra-cooling effect, put it in the refrigerator overnight. Some people like to stick in the freezer and apply it but I don’t recommend this practice as I believe that this damages the skin around the eye area. Remember the skin around the eye area is very thin and fragile, extreme cold can shrink it but also hurt it.
